I am an Associate Professor in the Southampton Education School at The University of Southampton.

I have a wide range of research interests across education, social science, and experimental philosophy. The majority of my research focuses on assessment methodology, comparative judgement, and (the nature of) mathematical proof.

As of Summer 2026, a growing focus of mine is the role of AI in mathematics education — most recently through SMP 3.0, a project turning the historic School Mathematics Project textbook archive into interactive, AI-authored STACK questions. [Link coming soon]

I’m also in the early stages of a new project focussed on teacher training for adolescent social and emotional resilience. You can find out more about other active projects using the tab above.

I was awarded my PhD in mathematics education from Loughborough University in 2019, and have previously held posts in the Departments of Mathematics at University College London (UCL) and West Virginia University (WVU). I joined the Southampton Education School in 2022.
